Despite great anticipation, Alia Bhatt-starrer, Jigra, which hit the screens on October 11, has struggled at the box office. Director Vasan Bala took responsibility for the film's box office failure, and said he let Alia down.

Speaking with Fever FM, Bala talked about Alia's decision to do Jigra, noting that she could have easily chosen any other project. "She is the first choice for every one. She could have been on any other film set, but Jigra, during that time. So, she had to make that choice. And she trusted me with that choice. So, it is my responsibility to deliver at the box office, because we are in the business of filmmaking also."

Bala also stressed upon the need to “analyse” what went wrong in the film.

Kuch toh hua hai na (Something has happened, right)? People have stayed away; something that they have not bought, something that they didn't feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time, his or her, then you know, make it worth it," he added.

Jigra earned just Rs 4.55 crore on the opening day, marking Alia's lowest opening since Highway, which earned Rs 3.48 crore. The film has so far earned Rs 27.2 crore domestically, against a budget of Rs 40.47 crore. The total worldwide collection currently stands at Rs 40.35 crore.
