Jyothirmayi is making headlines for her stellar performance in Amal Neerad's film Bougainvillea. She had surprised everyone with her return to Mollywood in her husband's film, after 11 years, and her new look. Her last film before this was Uruva.

In an interview with Manorama Online, she talked about her comeback and how she was disappointed with her career path in the early 2000s. “When I was not active in films, the artistic activities we did at home offered me happiness. At one point, I even forgot I was an artiste. Apart from that, my partner’s creative journey and success also pleased me. I didn’t take a break when I was at the peak. In fact, I was not pleased with the trajectory of my career. I had decided then that I would return when I get something that would give me a high.”
The 41-year-old also talked about her relationship with her parents, husband and son. An only child, she was taught to be “sincere” and “measured” by her parents.
Talking about Neerad, she said, “Lack of ego between partners is what makes a relationship beautiful”, adding that no good relationship emerges from pressure. She also gave her husband full credit for her character, Reethu, in Bougainvillea.
Jyothirmayi further said that she takes her three-and-a-half-year-old son, Ray, with her for her shoots and he eagerly waits for her to come back. “He has only started seeing his mom go to work regularly now. We go as a huge team, including my mother and sister-in-laws, to shoots. He waits for us and asks what we did once we return.”
Bougainvillea, also starring Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil, released earlier this month to rave reviews.
