Malayalam film editor Nishad Yusuf was found dead at his Kochi home in the early hours of October 30. According to the police, the 43-year-old was found in his apartment in Panampilly Nagar at 2 am. While the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, cause of death was yet to be ascertained.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala Directors Union confirmed his demise and expressed their condolences in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning. “The unexpected demise of Nishad, a film editor who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema, is not someone the film world will be able to accept quickly,” the Union wrote.
Who was Nishad Yusuf?
Nishad was a native of Haripad, Alappuzha. He was notable for his work in Malayalam and Tamil film industries, including movies starring Tovino Thomas, Mammootty, Mamitha Baiju, Asif Ali, and many more.
Notable works include Thallumaala, Unda, Saudi Vellakka, Wolf, Operation Java, One, Chaver, Ramachandra Boss & Co, Udal, Alankam, Thousand And One Lies, Adios Amigo, and Exit. He had won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor for Thallumaala in 2023.
Before his death, he was working on upcoming films like Mammootty's Bazooka and Khalid Rahman's Alappuzha Gymkhana. His latest work, Bobbly Deol-starrer Kanguva, was slated for a November release.
Nishad is survived by his wife and two children.
