Earlier today, South Indian director Atlee launched the “Taster Cut” of the upcoming Bollywood movie Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff. Produced by Priya Atlee and Murad Khetani, along with others, the sneak peek was also published on JioStudio’s official YouTube along with simultaneous other outlets.
The movie is directed by Kalees and is a remake of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil hit Theri starring “Thalapathy” Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson.
In the original, the titular character is a peace-loving baker in Kerala who is sprung into action when certain his past comes to haunt him, endangering his five-year-old daughter. Theri was 2016’s second-biggest Tamil hit, crossing Rs 150 crore in collections.
National award-winning music director Thaman S, renowned for the OST for Allu Arjun’s Telugu hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, lends his skills to create a truly “mass” preview.
This film may be quite the lift Varun Dhawan’s career needs, with his recent memorable role only as a shape-shifting wolf in Bhediya and other Maddock Films productions. Other seemingly-populous roles where he donned the character that resembles a mishmash of Akshay Kumar and Govinda haven’t helped him much at the box office.
This movie, which is rumoured to even have cameos from superstars Salman Khan and Kamal Hassan, will be Dhawan’s first proper foray into a pan-Indian production with a pan-Indian cast. Baby John is expected to get a Christmas release on December 25, 2024.
