Kareena Kapoor’s murder mystery film The Buckingham Murders and Rajinikanth's action drama Vettaiyan are among the movie releases in the first week of November

A long list of movies are set to hit the theatres and OTT platforms to treat you this week. These include Kareena Kapoor’s murder mystery film, The Buckingham Murders, Cannes 2024 Palme d’Or winner Anora, directed by Sean Baker, and Citadel: Honey Bunny, spinoff of American series Citadel.

Citadel: Honey Bunny

Release date: November 7

Directed by Raj & DK, Citadel: Honey Bunny is an Indian thriller spinoff of the American series Citadel. It follows the journey of Bunny, a stuntman, and Honey, an actress, as they enter the world of espionage for Bunny’s father’s company.

The couple’s lives are transformed as they navigate the dangers of their new roles while striving to protect their daughter. The series stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Varun Dhawan, Kay Kay Menon, Simran, and Sikandar Kher.

Vettaiyan

Streaming platform: Amazon Prime Video

Directed by T. J. Gnanavel, Vettaiyan is an action-drama centred on a police officer investigating a brutal crime against a young woman. As he takes on the case, he confronts numerous obstacles and boldly stands up against corruption.

The film features a stellar cast, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Dushara Vijayan.

Devara: Part 1

Release date: November 8

Directed and written by Koratala Siva, Devara: Part 1 is a Telugu action film about Devara, who aims to prevent village clans from hijacking cargo ships for ammunition. Conflict arises when Bhaira, a clan member, opposes him.

The film stars N.T. Rama Rao Jr., Janhvi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Chaitra Rai, and Shine Tom Chacko, marking Kapoor and Khan’s Telugu film debut.

A.R.M

A.R.M or Ajayante Randam Moshanam, directed by Jithin Lal, features Tovino Thomas in a triple role across three generations. In 1900, Kunjikelu was celebrated in Haripuram for retrieving an oil lamp statue crafted from a star fragment. In 1950, Maniyan, a skilled thief, was despised by his village, and could not be more different from his father. Lastly, Ajayan grapples with the legacy of his grandfather’s theft. The film also stars Basil Joseph and Krithi Shetty. 

Despicable Me 4

In Despicable Me 4, Gru’s life takes a turn with the arrival of his son, who struggles to connect with him. Things get even more challenging when a new villain threatens to destroy Gru’s world. Directed by Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage, the film features voice performances from Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, and Sofia Vergara.

The Buckingham Murders

Produced by and starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, The Buckingham Murders, centres on Jasmeet “Jazz” Bhamra, a British-Indian detective tasked with solving the murder of a 10-year-old boy while grappling with her own child’s tragic death. The film is directed by Hansal Mehta.

Vijay 69

Age is just a number in this new Anupam Kher film. Directed by Akshay Roy, the film follows the life of 69-year-old Vijay as he challenges societal norms by training for a triathlon. This comedy-drama delves deep into age-related stereotypes. The film also stars Chunky Panday and Mihir Ahuja.  

It Ends with Us

Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, It Ends with Us centres on Lily Bloom, who dreams of opening a flower shop in the city. She falls for Kyle, a neurosurgeon, but their relationship turns abusive. Her life further complicates when her first love, Atlas, reappears. The film stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar, and Jenny Slate.

Reji Antony’s second directorial delves into the lives of two Christian families from Travancore, highlighting their contrasting class differences and social standings. The movie features a talented cast, including Aju Varghese, Johny Antony, Manju Pillai, Sijoy Varghese, Vineeth Thattil, and Sajin Cherukayil.

Anora

Release date: November 8

Directed by Sean Baker and winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2024, Anora tells the story of a Brooklyn sex-worker named Anora who falls in love with and marries Ivan, the son of a wealthy Russian businessman. Facing harsh disapproval, Ivan’s parents go to great lengths to annul their marriage. The film stars Mikey Madison, Mark Eidelstein, Yuriy Borisov, Ivy Wolk and Vache Tovmasyan.

Here, directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) follows the story of different couples who live in the same house across different generations. The film stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Kelly Reilly, Leslie Zemeckis and Paul Bettany.

Mura

Release date: November 8

A group of friends from Trivandrum -- Anandhu, Saji, Manu and Manaf -- want to turn their dreams into reality and in order to do so, plan a heist. But along the way they face hardships that could break their friendship. Directed by Musthafa, the film stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kani Kusruti, Hridhu Haroon, Parvathi Maala and Kannan Nayar.
