Shah Rukh Khan gets death threat; police begin investigation

The death threat call to Shah Rukh Khan was made by a man from Raipur. A case has been registered in Mumbai

Popular Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan received a death threat.

Bandra police station received a call threatening Shah Rukh Khan and asking for Rs 50 lakh. The threat to Khan follows a series of threats issued to fellow Bollywood actor Salman Khan, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to media reports, the threat call was made by a man, Faizan Khan, hailing from Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

Following the death threat, a case has been registered by the Bandra police under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the caller.

According to media reports, a police team from Mumbai was headed to Raipur for an investigation. While there was no confirmation from Mumbai police on reports that the call was made from Chhattisgarh, a Raipur police official said their counterparts from the Maharashtra capital on Thursday served a notice to a man from the city in connection with it.

The actor had faced death threats earlier as well. In 2023, following the success of his movies Pathan and Jawan there were similiar threats to his life. In the wake of the threat in 2023, the actor's security was increased to Y+ category.

Shah Rukh Khan's last release was Rajkumar Hirani's comedy-drama Dunki in 2023. He will be next seen in a film, titled King. The movie also stars his daughter Suhana in a pivotal role. The film is directed by Sujoy Ghosh of Kahaani fame.
