Veteran Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh died at 11pm on Saturday, November 9, at his residence in Chennai's Ramapuram. He was 80 years old.

How did Delhi Ganesh die?

Delhi Ganesh died due to old age and ill health. His son Maha Delhi Ganesh revealed that his father was undergoing treatment.

"Last night when we tried to give him a tablet, he did not respond. A doctor confirmed that he was dead," he said.

Born in Thoothukudi, Ganesh served in the Indian Air Force between 1964 and 1974.

Before working in movies, he was part of the "Delhi" theatre group Dakshina Bharata Natak Sabha, from where he gets his name Delhi Ganesh. He debuted in film industry in 1976 and has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada movies.

Ganesh is known for doing character-based roles and antagonists in Tamil films. He was also a dubbing artiste.

His first movie was Pattinapravesham, which released in 1977. He is known for roles in movies like Nayagan, Michael Madana Kamarajan, Avvai Shanmukhi and Indian 2. He has also acted in eight TV serials.

Notable awards conferred to Ganesh include Tamil Nadu government's Kalaimamani Award (1993-94) and Best Actor Award (1979).
