Born on 13 November 1958 in Salem, Indra Soundar Rajan had written 700 short stories, some 340 novels and directed 105 TV serials. He wrote the screenplay for the 2007 period drama flick 'Sringaram' which won three honours at the 53rd National Film Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

No Tamil TV serial to date has beaten the record of his ‘"Marma Desam", which is a five-part anthology, another report said.
Indra Soundar Rajan slipped and fell in the bathroom of his house in TVS Nagar Madurai, which ultimately led to his demise, Tamil news portals said. He was a cancer patient and was undergoing treatment, they added.
Soundar Rajan added the name of his mother as a prefix after turning a writer. He was employed by the TVS Group of Companies before becoming a full-time writer.
