Artist Nikhil Chopra will curate the 2025 edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale along with his team HH Art Spaces, announced Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday.

He was picked by a panel of well-known artists Bose Krishnamachari, Jitish Kallat, Dayanita Singh, Shanay Jhaveri and Rajeeb Samdani.

The biennial event's upcoming edition will be held from December 12, 2025 to March 31, 2026. The previous edition saw 90 artists while the next one will have 60 artists.

Who is Nikhil Chopra?

Born in Kolkata, Nikhil Chopra studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayaji Rao University in Vadodara. He did a masters in fine arts at Ohio State University in the US. He currently lives in Goa.

Chopra's art integrates various mediums that includes performances, painting, photography and more. He was the 2019-20 Artist in Residence at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.

The 50-year-old has performed at Kochi Muziris Biennale in the past besides Bienal de la Habana, the 12th Sharjah Biennial and documenta 14. The 2014 edition of the Kochi Muziris Biennale saw a 52-hour-long live performance by Chopra at Aspinwall House.

Kochi-Muziris Biennale president Krishnamachari said Chopra is known for his evocative and immersive work.
