AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu have parted ways after almost three decades of marriage. However, Rahman's bassist Mohini Dey has also announced her separation the same day.
This sparked rumours suggesting links between the two incidents. However, the legal representative of Rahman and Saira have denied the rumours.
Talking to Republic TV, their lawyer Vandana Shah said there is no connection at all. "Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own," she said.
Mohini, 29, shared her separation news in a joint post with her husband and music composer, Mark Hartsuch, on Instagram, saying their decision was mutual.
Mohini, who is from Kolkata, said they are still great friends and that they decided that they want different things in life. "With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated. First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us."
Mohini, who is part of Gaan Bangla's Wind of Change, released her debut album in August 2023. She said she will continue to collaborate on projects with Hartsuch.
Earlier, Rahman posted on X that all things seem to carry an unseen end. He also requested everyone to respect the family's privacy. "Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts," he wrote, "Yet in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again."
However, he used the hashtag, #arrsairabreakup, making his fans wonder why he used it while also requesting privacy. Some users asked whether he wants the hashtag to trend and requested the musician to remove it. "You don't need a # to ask people to respect your privacy," said one follower.
