Director Ashwni Dhir's 18-year-old son Jalaj Dhir dies in car accident

The incident occured in the wee hours of November 23. Ashwni Dhir was supposed to attend the premiere of his film 'Hisaab Barabar' on November 26 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa

Bollywood filmmaker Ashwni Dhir's son Jalaj Dhir was killed in a major car accident in the early hours of November 23. The incident occured on the Western Express Highway at Vile Parle in Mumbai. There were three people in the car along with Jalaj – Sarthak Kaushik (18), Jedan Jimmy (18), and Sahil Mendha (18).

How did it happen?

According to a statement given by Jedan, he, along with Sahil, went to Jajan's house on November 22, and spent the aftenoon there. They then decided to visit their friend, Jia Mehta (18) in the evening. The group took an autorickshaw to her house, where Sahil drank two pegs of vodka, and Jedan consumed one peg.

At 11pm, they came back to Jalaj's house, where Sarthak joined, and after a few hours of playing video games, decided to go for a night drive at 3:30am. Jalaj and Sarthak sat in the back seat. Jedan drove the car first and later, Sahil got behind the wheel. The car, traveling at an estimated speed of 120-150 km/h, lost control and hit a divider near the Sahara Star Hotel.

Jedan and Sahil escaped with minor injuries. Jalaj and Sarthak suffered major injuries and taken to the hospital where they both were declared dead.

Ashwni was going to attend the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa for the premiere of his film Hisaab Barabar on November 26. According to reports, Jalaj's funeral was conducted on November 24.
