Is 'Thalapathy 69' a remake of Anil Ravipudi's 'Bhagavanth Kesar'?

Vijay officially announced Thalapathy 69 in October, marking the final film of the famed actor before he begins his political career

Fans of Vijay are gearing up to see their favourite actor rock the big screen one last time. The actor, lovingly called Thalapathy Vijay, announced that his next film, directed by H. Vinoth, will be his last before he ventures into the world of politics.

The film, dubbed Thalapathy 69, marking the 69th film of the famed actor, has been the hot topic since its official announcement in October 2024. On Thursday, a report went viral on social media that claimed the film would be a Tamil remake of the film Bhagavanth Kesari.

Bhagavanth Kesari is a Telugu action film directed by Anil Ravipudi, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Sreeleela, and Kajal Aggarwal. The report claimed that the producers of Thalapathy 69 had acquired the rights to the film, hence the assumption that it could be a remake.

However, Cinema Vikatan3 was told by a source close to the production that the rumours were false. "There’s no truth to it. Thalapathy 69 is not a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. It is an original action film, and the rumors spreading on social media are baseless."

Thalapathy 69, which is slated for a October 2025 release, will feature Bobby Deol, Pooja Hedge, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain, and Prakash Raj.

Vijay's latest release, Venkat Prabhu's The Greatest of All Time, aka The GOAT, grossed Rs 455 crore, making it his second highest-grossing film after Leo.
