On the day of the much-anticipated re-release of Megastar Mammootty's action-family drama 'Valliettan', actor Manoj K Jayan shared a nostalgic photo on Instagram.
What he referred to as "24 years challenge" on Instagram, Manoj K Jayan published a collage of two photos that featured himself with Mammootty. While the one was taken from the sets of 'Valliettan', the other was a recent selfie featuring the two Mollywood veterans.
At the time of publishing this article, the Instagram post got over 12,900 reactions. Many Malayalam movie fans commented that the two actors remain young even after 24 years.
Manoj K Jayan played the role of Dasan, the adopted sibling of Mammootty's Arackal Madhavanunni in the Shaji Kailas directorial. The film, which was initially released on September 10, 2000, is being re-released after being restored to 4K resolution. A roaring hit at the turn of the century, the movie also featured Shobana, Sai Kumar, NF Varghese, Siddique and Vijayakumar amongst others in important roles.
Arackal Madhavanunni, a feudal landlord who made it big despite losing everything as an adolescent, is a fatherly figure to his four younger brothers. The family comes into loggerheads with a powerful man (NF Varghese's Bava) after his brother is killed in a scuffle with the youngest of the Arackal brothers. Bava wants an eye for an eye, and Madhavanunni's resistance results in his foes forming an umbrella alliance to bring down his family. The movie tells the tale of the brothers getting out of the dangers looming all around under the leadership of Madhavanunni.
Amidst all the macho muscle flexing and "mass" dialogues, 'Valliettan' is also remembered for its soul-stirring songs and picturesque shots that captured the beauty of rural Kerala.
