Director Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai 2 is expected to hit the screens on December 20. The much-awaited trailer of the sequel released on November 26 promises a solid crime thriller with extraordinary performances by Vijay Sethupathi, Soori and Manju Warrier.
Viduthalai the prequel to Viduthalai 2 which was released in 2023 ended with the arrest of Perumal Vaathiyar, the role played by Vijay Sethupathi, who was shown as a comrade and a naxal.
The sequel is expected to delve deep into the story of Perumal Vaathiyar and why the comrade was looked at as a Naxal by the police. The first part spoke about constable Kumaresan played by Soori and how he ended up meeting Perumal Vaathiyar. The sequel will tell the story of Perumal Vaathiyar, his love life, how he turned from a school teacher to a comrade to a union leader and his Makkal Padai.
The two-minute 39-second trailer captures the essence of the gripping crime story with a background score by Ilayaraja. The trailer begins with Vijay Sethupathi and Manju Warrier meeting each other. Manju through the trailer promises an awesome performance with her elegant looks. The trailer also has a few hard-hitting dialogues with references to a few political happenings in Tamil Nadu. While one dialogue gives a reference to former chief minister M. Karunanidhi, the other at the end of the trailer has a reference to the actors getting into politics.
Set in 1987, Viduthalai is a period crime thriller film directed and co-produced by Vetrimaaran. The prequel is the story of a police constable who gets recruited by a police regiment in the hills to arrest the leader of a separatist group.
With Soori in the lead, the prequel had Chethan, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon and Ilavarasu in crucial roles. The sequel will have Manju Warrier, Anurag Kashyap, Kishore and Bose Venkat in the lead.
Viduthalai 2, to be released on December 20 is expected to be the most successful Tamil film of 2024 with Vetrimaaran’s screenplay and Ilayaraja’s music score.
