Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine as Light has bagged yet another award to add to their golden shelf. The film won the Best International Feature at the New York Film Critics Circle on Tuesday, less than a day after they lifted the Best International Feature trophy at the reputed Gotham Awards 2024.
On November 30, the film also won the Grand Jury Prize at the 17th edition of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and earlier this year, the film was honoured with the prestigious Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Internet reacts to All We Imagine as Light wins
The back-to-back honours received by the film has not gone unnoticed by netizens, many wondering whether the Film Federation of India (FFI) made the right choice by sending Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies as its submission to the Oscars.
It was a setback for Indo-French production All We Imagine as Light as it was considered for both French and Indian selection, but could not make it in either.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta (Shahid, The Buckingham Murders) reacted to All We Imagine as Light winning the NYFCC, by personally declaring it as India's submission to the Academy Awards.
One user wrote, “Not this time but everytime we failed to send the most deserving movie to send in to the Oscars. They are repeating their mistakes rather than improving,” while another commented, “Another slipper shot by ‘The film federation of India’”.
