'Pushpa 2' stampede: Allu Arjun's surprise arrival causes chaos, woman dies during Hyderabad fan show

Though reports suggested that there was a huge police presence, they could not manage the crowd and resorted to lathi charge

The much-awaited Allu Arjun movie Pushpa 2: The Rule has hit the theatres across the countrybut the release of the film resulted in a stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre when the actor gave a surprise visit during the premiere.

A woman was killed and two others were injured and hospitalised in the stampede on December 4 night when the surprise arrival of Allu Arjun at the RTC Crossroads theatre.

The deceased woman was identified as Revathi, 39, from Dilsukhnagar who came to watch the movie with her husband and two children. She was administered CPR and rushed to hospital immediately but died of injuries. Revathi's body was moved to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.

Her son, Tej, 9, who was critically injured was admitted to KIMS Hospital in Begumpet. Another child who was injured was being treated at a private hospital.

Allu Arjun arrived at Sandhya Theatre after 10 pm. His unannounced visit caused chaos amid lack of enough security as the fans rushed to see their favourite actor. Amid the chaos, the actor was moved inside the theatre complex. He was later seen waving at the crowd from the sunroof of his vehicle as he made his way out of the compound.

Though reports suggested that there was a huge police presence, they could not manage the crowd. The front gate of theatre collapsed during the stampede and police resorted to lathi charge to control the fans, resulting in further chaos. Later, more personnel were deployed in the area.

Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar, is a sequel to Pushpa: The Rise, which was released in 2021. The much-anticipated Allu Arjun starrer premiered at 9.30 pm on December 4 in select theatres in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru.

On December 5, Pushpa 2 hit over 10,000 screens in 2D and 4DX versions. A delay in post-production led to the cancellation of the 3D format.
