Since the beginning of this year, singer-rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been hit with multiple sexual assault allegations and lawsuits, left and right. Now, to add one more to the list, Combs has been accused, alongside singer-rapper Shawn Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, in the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The incident is said to have occured during the MTV Music Awards afterparty on September 7, 2000. The woman, under the guise of 'Jane Doe', filed a lawsuit on Sunday, alleging she was drugged, following which, both singers took her to a room and raped her on the night of the party.
Amid the accusations, alleged photos started to emerge on social media of the party, which places Carter at the scene of the crime.
The lawsuit was filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, the same lawyer who filed all the previous sexual assault lawsuits against Combs, on behalf of the victims.
Jay-Z responds to the allegations
The singer released a statement to NBC News, calling the allegations “heinous”, and a “terrible error in judgement”.
"These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?" Carter exclaimed.
Directly addressing Buzbee, he said, “I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you I have seen your kind many times over. I'm more than prepared to deal with your type. You claim to be a marine?! Marines are known for their valor, you have neither honor nor dignity.”
Carter also mentioned how these “false allegations” are affecting his family – wife Beyonce, and his children Blue Ivy Carter, Rumi and Sir. “My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.”
The 55-year-old concluded by stating that, as someone born in Brooklyn, the community adheres to strict honours and codes when it comes to protecting children. “Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.”
Details of the lawsuit
In the lawsuit, the victim claims she was trying to attend the afterparty and sought asssstance from nearby limousine drivers to gain entry to the event. She was then approached by a driver, claiming to work for Diddy, and called her a “good fit” for the singer, before offering her a ride to the party.
On arrival, she was made to sign a document, which she believes to have been a non-disclosure agreement. She then explains that her drink was spiked with drugs making her feel “woozy”, after which Combs and Carter took her to a room and sexually assaulted her, in the presence of an unknown female celebrity.
