The Golden Globes nominations for 2024 are out. Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez leads the foreign-language films category with 10 nominations. Indian film buffs have much to rejoice, as Payal Kapadia and her debut feature All We Imagine As Light have secured two nominations.

The film's international recognition is a cause for celebration, given that it was the first Indian feature to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, aside from Payal becoming the first Indian director to get a Golden Globes nomination.

She will be competing in the Best Directors awards category against Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance), Edward Berger (Conclave), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), and Sean Baker (Anora).

Set in Mumbai, All We Imagine As Light tracks the lives of three women friends who grapple with struggles of varying degrees. The heartwarming film has garnered rave reviews for its authentic, immersive portrayal of Mumbai, the unconventional storytelling approach, and the central characters by Kani Kusruti, Divyaprabha, and Chhaya Kadam—women who stick together as a family in times of distress and confusion.

A joint production of banners based in France, the United States, and India, the film was released theatrically in India on November 22.

The other foreign language entries nominated are Walter Salles's I'm Still Here, Magnus van Horn's The Girl With the Needle, Mohammad Rasoulof's The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and Maura Delporo's Vermiglio.

After Emilia Perez, Brady Corbet's The Brutalist secured the highest number of nominations—with seven—including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

The Golden Globes Awards is of notable interest as the results would indicate the selected films' performance at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony scheduled for March 3, 2025.
