Kannada actor Mohan Babu has issued an apology to a video journalist he allegedly attacked during a heated physical altercation on Tuesday outside his Hyderabad residence. The actor claimed that it was a result of unpleasant emotions arising from an infiltration of his home by a large group of people along with the media's involvement in the situation.

On Friday morning, Mohan Babu took to his X handle to express "deep regret" on the "unfortunate" incident -- a nasty family dispute that snowballed into a much-complicated chain of events -- and apologised to the journalist, his family, his company, and wished him a speedy recovery. He also added that he couldn't apologise earlier because health issues held him back. The actor was hospitalised for two days.

On Tuesday, a video journalist filed a complaint against Mohan Babu after the latter's alleged attack on the former on the premises of the actor's farmhouse, following which an attempt to murder charge was added against Mohan Babu.

THE WEEK had earlier published a detailed account of the incident, which can be read here

It began: "It had all the trappings of a hit reality show. A film celebrity father and his son living in the same house develop differences. Both lodge police complaints and visit hospitals citing injuries. Backing them were dozens of bouncers on each side who had a face-off in front of cameras. In the melee, a TV news reporter got seriously injured necessitating surgery to treat a fracture in the head region. That is not all, a maid of the house allegedly attempted suicide after her candid conversation regarding the issue was recorded secretly and aired on TV channels. A moving audio clip of the father went viral which kept the audience further glued. Action scenes like the break-in of a gate, and emotional scenes involving teary eyes were observed, all of which were captured in the last three days by an ample number of cameras and mics."

The journalist had stated that when he went to cover the ongoing family dispute at  Mohan Babu's Jalpally residence on December 10, the senior actor got violent with him and other journalists while verbally abusing them and allegedly hitting him with a microphone, resulting in a head injury.
