Yash Raj Films (YRF) announced a third film in the Mardaani film series headlined by Rani Mukerji, on Friday, Dec 13. It will see Rani reprising her intense, no-nonsense cop avatar, Shivani Shivaji Roy aka Mardaani. The rest of the cast members are unknown at this point.

The project, to be directed by Abhiraj Minawala, is currently in the pre-production stage and has a script by Aayush Gupta, who is known for penning the YRF series The Railway Men. The team has announced a release window of 2026.

In an official statement, Rani shared that she was "thrilled" to announce that they will commence shooting of Mardaani 3 in April 2025. "It is always special to wear the police uniform and play a character that has only given me love. I’m proud to essay the character of this feisty cop again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe.”

The first Mardaani was released a decade ago, and the sequel in 2019. Pradeep Sarkar and Gopi Puthran directed the first and second films, respectively. Both films, produced by Aditya Chopra, were fairly well-received by the critics and audiences.

Rani was last seen in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
