Telangana High Court granted interim bail to Telugu film actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested in connection with a stampede at the Pusha 2 film premiere in Hyderabad on December 4.

A 39-year-old woman died and her son was left critical due to the stampede.

The HC order comes hours after the arrest of Arjun. He was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the trail court earlier on the day.

A case was filed against the Sandhya Theatre management, the actor and his security team under sections 105 and 118(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) over the stampede incident.

Arjun was taken into custody on Friday by a team from Chikkadpally police station. Officials from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force and the Chikkadpally police station arrived at Arjun’s house and took him into custody.

Sandhya Theatre's owner and two employees have already been arrested.

Allu Arjun on December 11 approached the Telangana HC seeking to quash the FIR registered against him in connection with the death of a woman. However, it was not taken into consideration then.

Last week, the actor announced Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased and also assured the grieving family that they are not alone and he will meet the family personally.

According to the police, a huge crowd had gathered at the theatre to watch the movie and get a glimpse of the actors coming to the theatre.

"The theatre management did not make any additional provisions regarding security to manage the crowd nor was there any separate entry or exit for the actors team though the theatre management had information about their arrival," a police release had said.

The stampede occurred when Allu Arjun came to the theatre along with his security personnel. "His (Allu Arjun) personal security team started pushing the public, which further aggravated the situation as there was already a huge gathering at the theatre. Taking advantage of this situation along with the actor and his security team, a large number of people entered the lower balcony area," the police added.
