In the early hours of December 2, actor Vikrant Massey revealed on Instagram that he will take a break from acting. The announcement caused a frenzy on social media and many were puzzled as to why the actor, who was recently lauded for his performance in 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report, would want to go on a hiatus at the peak of his career.

In the Instagram post, the actor detailed that he wanted to spend more time with his family and will return to the cinema industry at an appropriate time.
At the Agenda AajTak event on Friday, the 37-year-old revealed the reason why he wants to take a break from acting. "The life I had always dreamt of, I finally got it, so I thought it was time to live it. I want to take a break, because, at the end of the day, everything is transient, which is why I am only doing one film next year. Social media pressure was an important part of sharing that “break from work” post, that I concede. I lead a public life, and I’m borderline introvert-ish.”
The Sector 36 actor further added, “When I put up that post, I was about to see The Sabarmati Report with our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And coming from a humble background, a boy who only wanted to act in front of the camera...when such a thing happens when I get to watch my film with the PM, do you think it would not have an impact on me? The Prime Minister hasn't seen any film in the past decade, the only movie he has seen is mine. So that was a big deal to me.

Massey also felt that he was not able to spend time with his family – his wife Sheetal Thakur, and their 9-month-old son Vaardan. “My son was born, and I was not able to spend any quality time with him or my wife. All of this was happening simultaneously. So, which is why I had written in that Instagram post, that as an actor, son, father, and as a husband, it was time for me to recalibrate. After doing what I had done professionally, I thought, 'What else could I have done more as an actor in this country?' I just want to better myself as an artiste going forward."
Vikrant Massey has a release lined up for 2025. He will star alongside Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of actor-producer Sanjay Kapoor, in Santoshi Singh directorial Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan.
