For many '90s kids, Jim Carrey's role in The Mask and its cartoon version are close to their hearts. The 1994 film still holds immense replay value. While the sequel, Son of the Mask, fell much short of the former's superior storytelling quality and didn't have the veteran comedian reprising his role, another entry in the series might materialise if the right idea lands on Carrey's lap.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, the actor expressed willingness to don the 'mask' provided the makers didn't pursue the project simply for monetary gains. "It has to be the right idea. It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… But as soon as a good idea comes your way or a group of people you enjoyed working with, things tend to change."
The actor was addressing this property amid earlier mention of his retirement plans. However, the actor said he wasn't really "definite" about it. “I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting," he clarified.
The Mask centered on a geeky, mild-mannered bank clerk, Stanley Ipkiss (played by Jim Carrey), who turns into a superhero figure after stumbling upon an antique mask concealing mysterious powers. The film also brought much attention to Cameron Diaz, whose breakthrough role was much-discussed.
As for his upcoming films, Carrey will be seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, wherein he reprises his Dr Robotnik character. He will also appear in director David Robert Mitchell’s next film, Evergreen Pines and the Fading Summer.
