Mohanlal as Kirata from Kannappa

Among Mohanlal's upcoming films as an actor is a Kannada fantasy project titled Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and headlined by Vishnu Manchu. The makers had recently announced an April 25, 2025 release date and teased a character poster reveal of Mohanlal's character Kirata.

Unveiled on Monday, the character poster gives us a glimpse of Mohanlal's unique look. Vishnu Manchu shared it with the caption, “I had the honor of sharing the screen space with one of the greatest actors of our time. This entire sequence will be explosive.”

The poster contains a tagline: “Master of the Pashupatastra. The victor over the victorious, the legendary Kirata of the forest.”

Based on the mythological character of the same name, a Lord Shiva devotee, Kannappa has a stellar ensemble featuring the likes of Madhoo, R Sarathkumar, Mohan Babu, Preity Mukundhan, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Brahmanandam among many others.

The film, which Mohan Babu is bankrolling under his own banner, will also boast Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Prabhas in special appearances. The makers aim to release it in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

The technical team of Kannappa includes Seldon Chau as director of photography, Anthony Gonsalvez as editor, and Stephen Devassy working on the music. Kecha Khamphakdee handles the stunt supervision.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his Malayalam directorial debut, Barroz, on Dec. 25. The 3D big-budget fantasy, produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, has Mohanlal playing the titular character alongside a host of international names.

The actor also has Malayalam director Tharun Murthy's Thudarum, in which Mohanlal and Shobana share the screen after a long time. Aside from Thudarum, the actor is reprising his role from Lucifer in its sequel, Empuraan, set for release in March 2025. It sees Prithviraj Sukumaran returning to the director's chair, with Murali Gopy on the script again.
