As per reports, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights for the blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule for a massive Rs 275 crore, making it the biggest deal of Netflix in India after Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, whose streaming rights were apparently acquired by Netflix for Rs 250 crore.

Pushpa 2: The Rule, which has shattered box office records since its theatrical release on December 5, 2024, is expected to arrive on the streaming platform around February 2025, following the standard post-theatrical release window of 6-8 weeks.

Directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, the film has already amassed more than Rs 1,000 crore while inching closer to an enormous Rs 1,500 crore globally within 15 days, making it the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Released in Telugu and dubbed into Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali, it is the sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise, which introduced audiences to Allu Arjun’s iconic character Pushpa Raj.

While Netflix has not announced an official streaming date, the platform has confirmed that Pushpa 2: The Rule will be available in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, with fans eagerly awaiting the digital release following its successful theatrical run.

However, the film’s phenomenal success has not been without controversy. On December 13, 2024, Allu Arjun was briefly arrested in a case related to a stampede during the film’s premiere in Hyderabad’s Sandhya theatre that tragically resulted in a woman’s death and left her nine-year-old son critically injured. Arjun was released on bail after spending a night in custody, with the arrest sparking debates about whether the actor should be held responsible for the stampede.

Despite this setback, Pushpa 2: The Rule remains the centre of attraction, from its record-breaking box office performance to its highly anticipated OTT debut. With its larger-than-life appeal, the movie continues to enthral audiences and break new ground in Indian cinema.
