Action-packed trailer for ‘Superman’ is finally here! Where to watch and what to look out for in the 2025 James Gunn film

James Gunn-helmed ‘Superman’ (2025) movie starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and a surprise actor, released its first action-packed emotional trailer

From the new trailer of James Gunn's ‘Superman’ (2025)

Marking the dawn of the live-action DCU officially, James Gunn launched the new ‘teaser’ trailer of his upcoming 2025 superhero film Superman on Thursday. The much-awaited film among the fandom is loosely based on the All-Star Superman comics (or, is it?) and other alternate interpretations, deviating from the campy movies before the 1990s and the darker Zack Snyder-era films. Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the formidable Alexander “Lex” Luthor.

And what a way to kick things off. First off, it begins in the middle of the story—finally, we don’t have to see how Superman becomes Superman. Every soul who has ever picked up a comic book knows it by now.

And secondly, we get to see Superman’s dog, Krypto, in a full live-action role! This is beyond exciting, especially if you have followed the adventures of “Krypto, the superdog” in print.

Brosnahan has a few shots in as reporter Lois Lane and shines in them. Nicholas Hoult is towering as Lex Luthor, the billionaire baddie who owns LuthorCorp (unlike the ‘LexCorp’ in most iterations). We also get a glimpse of his company and its logo.

But the highlight role in the trailer… yes, you guessed it! It is Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern. After lending his voice to god-knows-how-many iterations of Green Lantern now, it is almost like Fillion is finally there, in live-action, in a role that fans have been demanding him to be cast in for a decade!

We get a glimpse of other supes such as Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific, but that is for you to find out when you watch (and rewatch) the trailer. The music—the theme—truly rounds up the “Man of Tomorrow” vibe.

On Thursday, James Gunn posted a link to a YouTube countdown ending on Thursday, December 19 at 7.23 pm IST, and featured a 30-second clip—a teaser to the trailer. Other comic book mainstays, such as Cat Grant and Jimmy Olsen, featured in the teaser. But the new trailer was all soul. And way too many details. But we aren’t complaining.

Look out for Smallville references, some “kryptonite” here and there, and a bit of throwback to the classic comics in certain shots.

James Gunn’s Superman (2025) is slated for a July 11 release in the coming year. It was earlier titled Superman: Legacy.
