When the clock struck 00:00 on New Year's Day, Mammootty took to this social media handles to inform fans that his upcoming feature with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, will hit theatres on January 23.
Said to be a investigative drama with comedic elements—at least that's the assumption one makes after seeing the teaser released on December 4—the film marks Gautham Menon's Malayalam directorial debut, and also features Gokul Suresh, Sushmita Bhat, Viji Venkitesh, Vineeth and Vijay Babu, among others.
Produced by MammoottyKampany, the film has screenplay and dialogues by Dr Neeraj Rajan, Dr Sooraj Rajan, and Gautham Menon from a story by Dr Neeraj Rajan.
Vishnu R Dev is the director of photography with editing by Anthony. The film also marks the Malayalam debut of composer Darbuka Siva.
In the teaser, Mammootty and Gokul Suresh can be seen having a ligthearted interaction on the clever moves to use while fighting an opponent, leading some viewers to make comparisons to Sherlock Homes and his sidekick Dr John Watson.
In a recent interaction with the media, Gokul Suresh shared that the film has the feel of an Agatha Christie thriller.
Interestingly, Gautham Menon is Mammootty's co-star in Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis. The team completed filming in October and plans to release it sometime this year.
Mammootty last played an investigative officer in Kannur Squad, a box office hit.
Meanwhile, the megastar is working in Mahesh Narayanan's multi-starrer with a large ensemble cast featuring Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara and Darshana Rajendran, among others.
