No Pongal release for Ajith's 'Vidaamuyarchi'?

An action thriller helmed by Magizh Thirumeni and backed by Lyca Productions, the film has Trisha Krishnan playing the female lead

It seems Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi won't arrive in time for a Pongal release in theatres.

The makers have shared an update citing "unavoidable circumstances" for the release postponement.

"Wishing everyone a Happy New Year 2025! Due to unavoidable circumstances, the release of VIDAAMUYARCHI is postponed from PONGAL! Kindly stay tuned for further updates! The wait will be worth it!" wrote Lyca Productions, the production house backing Vidaamuyarchi, on its official X page on Tuesday night.

An action thriller helmed by Magizh Thirumeni, the film was earlier planned to be released on Pongal 2025. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, with Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra in key roles.

In an interview with dtnext, Magizh Thirumeni said the film is not a "regular, mass action entertainer, where they will get to see a hero who is larger-than-life."

A few days ago, the makers released a 'lyric video' of a song titled 'Sawadeeka', a dance number featuring Ajith.

The actor is reuniting again with Trisha on Adhik Ravichandran's Good Bad Ugly. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, it also stars Prabhu, Prasanna, Arjun Das, Sunil, Rahul Dev, and Yogi Babu.

Before Vidaamuyarchi, the two shared the screen in Gautham Menon's Yennai Arindhaal.

Interestingly, the makers of Good Bad Ugly had earlier planned to release their film on Pongal too, but it seems unlikely at the moment. More clarity is expected on the release plans in the coming days.

Recently Adhik Ravichandran shared a post on his social media handles announcing the filming conclusion with a picture of Ajith in a younger and dashing look.
