From humble roots in Dosanjh Kalan village at Jalandhar district in Punjab, Diljit Dosanjh has come a long way—he is now a global star. He recently created history by being the first Indian singer to be featured on the Canada edition of Billboard. And what a way for the artiste to kick off the new year by meeting the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Many artistes have met Modi over the years... however, for fans of Dosanjh, this is a special milestone in what has been their star’s dreamy run to superstardom.
“A fantastic start to 2025,” tweeted Dosanjh with a collage of photos from the meeting with Modi. “We talked about a lot of things, including music of course!”
To this, PM Modi called the Punjabi star “multifaceted, blending talent and tradition.”
“We connected over music, culture and more…” added the prime minister.
The meeting between Modi and Dosanjh came as a surprise for both fans of the singer and supporters of the politician, with many lauding it as an “unexpected collaboration of 2025”—some even calling for a music collab on social media, albeit in humour.
Dosanjh started singing at an early age at Gurudwaras near his home and slowly transitioned to independent music. He later found fame in Punjabi cinema as an actor and eventually moved to Bollywood movies. However, his true stardom has always been connected to his musical career, and that is very much evident in the reception of his sold-out multi-continent Dil-Luminati tour.
