It has been over 12 years since Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam hit the big screens, a film that was widely acclaimed for its intricate plot paired with stellar performances from Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, and Asha Sharath.
The film’s success paved the way for Drishyam 2 in 2021, set six years after the events of the first part. The original film was so triumphant that it caught the eye of Bollywood filmmaker Nishikant Kamat, leading to a Hindi remake of the film released in 2015, with Ajay Devgn taking on the lead role. It subsequently set the stage for the remake of the second part of the Malayalam flick, which was released in 2022.

Now, in a recent interview with India Today Digital, when Mohanlal was asked about the possibility of a crossover between him and Devgn in Drishyam 3, he simply responded, “Let it happen. I will also pray for that.”
When asked about an update on the third instalment of the series, the 64-year-old replied, “I have no idea. It's in the process, in the pipeline. It is not that easy to bring out a good sequel. It is a big challenge. Part three is a big headache for them, for the director and for all of us. But we are in the process. It will happen someday, I am also praying for it to happen.”

Reflecting on the recognition that the crime film garnered in India and internationally, Mohanlal said, "Drishyam has done great things. It gave a great uplift to the Malayalam industry. We produced that film during the Covid-led pandemic. That film was viewed by the entire India. Now they know about the Malayalam industry. They started watching more Malayalam films [after Drishyam]. It became a blessing for the industry, [even] internationally."
