‘Absoultely disgusting’, ‘cringe’ are some of the words people have used to describe the dance number ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ that places Balayya opposite Urvashi Rautela Nandamuri Balakrishna and Urvashi Rautela in ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ music video | X

The ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ music video received serious pushback from viewers, for the "obscenely indecent" dance arrangement, performed by award-winning actor, Nandamuri Balakrishna and actress and model Urvashi Rautela. The music video is featured in the upcoming Telugu film, ‘Daaku Maharaaj’, with Nandamuri Balakrishna a.k.a Balayya playing the lead character.

Social media users called attention to the age gap between the two actors, Balayya at 64, being more than twice the age of 3o-year-old Urvashi, deeming their dance collaboration all the more inappropriate.

An ‘X’ user posted “What on earth did I just watch? A grown man dancing so inappropriately with someone who could be his daughter? Who even created such ‘genius’ choreography, and why did the hero agree to this? Absolutely disgusting.”

“Guess what ?! Dabidi Dibidi got more likes in just 1 day than the beautiful and classy ‘Chinni’ song managed in 10 days honestly shocked..I guess extreme mass appeal always trumps quality these days. This is what they call ‘playing to the gallery’ maybe”, another ‘X’ user pointed out.

Despite all the noise being made against this video, the former Miss Diva titleholder, put out on social media, behind-the-scenes recordings of herself in a bright pink dress, practising the controversial steps with other assistant dancers. She also posted another video on Instagram, with clips from the shoot—dressed in her shimmering deep blue outfit—undeterred by all the rage.

Sekhar Vulli Vj, aka Sekhar Master, the award-winning dance choreographer, arranged the moves for the song. He is a recipient of awards for his dance compositions in movies like ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ (song: Ramuloo Ramulaa), ‘Janatha Garage’ (song: Apple Beauty), Iddarammayilatho (song: Top Lesi Poddi) and others.

The upcoming movie – about a dacoit trying to build a dominion for himself in the face of rivals and contention—is directed by Bobby Kolli, and will hit theatres on January 12, 2025.

Urvashi Rautela had risen to popularity after her appearance in the music video of renowned singer, Yo Yo Honey Singh’s song ‘Love Dose’, from the album Desi Kalakaar. The album was released in 2014. She plays the lead role in the 2016 film, ‘Great Grand Masti’.

Nandamuri Balakrishna not only works in cinema, but is an active politician, following the footsteps of his father, the legendary N. T. Rama Rao.
