Tabu is returning to the horror genre once again. The actor, who has been getting much international attention lately with her appearance in the HBO Max series Dune: Prophecy, a long-form spin-off of the two-part films directed by Denis Villeneuve, is joining a new horror-comedy titled Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan.
Tabu announced her collaboration with the two by taking to her Instagram handle on Saturday to share a picture of a clapboard displaying the title of the film alongside the caption: “Hum yahan bandh hain (we are trapped here).”
Produced by Ekta Kapoor's production house Balaji Motion Pictures, Bhooth Bangla will also feature Wamiqa Gabbi and Jisshu Sengupta.
Tabu's last tryst with the horror genre was in Anees Bazmee's 2022 hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which saw her playing twin witches.
Bhooth Bangla marks her reunion with the Malayalam director and actor Akshay Kumar after a long time.
She has collaborated with Priyadarshan on four films – Kaalapani (1996), Virasat (1997), Hera Pheri (2000), and the Malayalam thriller Raakilipattu (2007) (released first in Tamil as Sneghithiye in 2000).
She worked with Akshay Kumar previously in Hera Pheri and earlier in Tu Chor Main Sipahi. Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi have collaborated previously in Vishal Bhardwaj's 2023 espionage thriller Khufiya.
Akshay and Priyadarshan have enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration in the past on such films as Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Khatta Meetha, and De Dana Dan.
Bhooth Bangla, which has music by Pritam, will hit theatres on April 2, 2026.
