Actor Unni Mukundan has announced that he is stepping down from his position as treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
In a social media note, the Marco star cited the increasing work demands impacting his mental health as the reason for his resignation.
“After much thought and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as the Treasurer (AMMA). I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience. However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health. Balancing these responsibilities, along with the pressures of my professional life, has become overwhelming. I now realize the importance of stepping back to focus on my well-being and that of my family,” he wrote, adding that he is tendering his resignation with a "heavy heart".
“While I have always given my best in serving this role, I recognise that I can no longer fulfil my duties effectively given the growing commitments ahead. I will, however, continue to serve until a new member is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition,” said the actor, who expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the industry for extending their trust and support, and wished his successor with much success.
Unni Mukundan has been enjoying the unexpectedly massive success of his latest film, Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni. Despite the excessive violence and bloodshed, the film has been received warmly by many viewers who prefer their action movies to come loaded with extreme gore and slick action sequences.
