Celebrated Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese and Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio are set to reunite for a film adaptation of Erik Larson’s 2003 true crime book The Devil in the White City.
According to Deadline, the duo has been planning this project for quite some time, with DiCaprio first acquiring the book’s rights in 2010. During this time, a series adaptation of the novel was planned by Hulu, with John Wick actor Keanu Reeves slated to take the lead role, but the production never materialised.

Now, after 15 years, the project has been revived by Scorsese and DiCaprio with 20th Century Studios taking it on. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film is in the early stages of development, with no script yet developed.
DiCaprio and Scorsese will also serve as producers along with Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn and Jennifer Davisson.
This is not the first Scorsese-DiCaprio team-up. The actor has starred in six feature films directed by Scorsese – Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon – as well as a short film – The Audition.

Aside from The Devil in the White City, the pair were also rumoured to direct and star in a film adaption of David Grann's 2023 book The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder, a novel which chronicles the shipwreck of the British Royal Navy ship on a deserted island.
About The Devil in the White City
The Devil in the White City is based on Erik Larson’s 2003 true crime book The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America. Set in Chicago during the 1983 Chicago World's Fair, the novel reiterates the story of Daniel Burnham, an architect, eager to make a mark in the industry, and H. H. Holmes, a serial killer disguised as a doctor. Holmes is considered to be the first serial killer in the United States.
