Johar shared the news of the young debutant’s arrival on his social media with a series of photos, accompanied by a lengthy and heartfelt caption, recalling experiences he had with Ibrahim’s parents. He reminisced about meeting Amrita when he was just 12 years old for the film Duniya, which his father produced, and how she treated Johar “like her own”.
Describing his first meeting with Saif, he drew comparisons between the father and son: “Young, suave, charming & effortless…VERY much like the first time I met Ibrahim,” the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director recalled.
“Films are in their blood, their genes and their passion. We make way for a new wave of talent, one that I cannot wait for the world to see,” Karan said, subtly acknowledging the nepotism debates circulating online.
Johar has worked with Amrita in the 2014 film 2 States and with Saif in Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kurbaan. Johar has also collaborated with Ibrahim’s older sister, Sara Ali Khan for the 2018 film Simmba.
Sara proved to be her brother’s biggest cheerleader when she reposted Johar’s post and welcomed her brother into the industry.
Ibrahim’s launch comes just a day after Johar teased “the next big thing” on his social media, boasting of Dharma Production’s track record of introducing “23 debutant directors” and “8 debutant actors”.
Among the stars that Johar has introduced are Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Janhvi Kapoor.
Ibrahim will make his Bollywood debut under Johar’s Dharma Production banner, though the details of the project remained unannounced.
