The Doctor is in the house! Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that he will be a part of the next Avengers movie, titled Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent conversation with Business Insider, Cumberbatch was asked about an interview he gave earlier this month where he claimed that he would not be in the next Avengers instalment. “I got that wrong. I am in the next one,” the actor backtracked.

However, the Sherlock actor followed the statement with: “Don’t ever believe anything I say.” So, while the MCU producers have not confirmed Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange to appear in the next film, it seems that it is a very likely possibility.

In an earlier conversation with Variety, Cumberbatch revealed that Doctor Strange will not be in Avengers: Doomsday. “Is that a spoiler? F**k it!” He had explained that plans changed when Jonathan Majors, who was slated to be the next big MCU villain, was convicted of sexual assault charges in 2024. He further elucidated that his exclusion has to do with “the character not aligning with this part of the story”.

Cumberbatch did, however, reveal that he will be a part of Avengers: Secret Wars which will hit theatres in 2027. “He’s quite central to where things might go,” the 48-year-old actor explained.

The actor, who last played the neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, disclosed that there will be a third stand-alone Doctor Strange film and did not divulge the details.

“They are very open to discussing where we go next,” he told the publication. “Who do you want to write and direct the next one? What part of the comic lore do you want to explore so that Strange can keep evolving? He’s a very rich character to play. He’s a complex, contradictory, troubled human who’s got these extraordinary abilities, so there’s potent stuff to mess about with.”

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theatres on May 1, 2026.
