In an exciting collaboration, British Railways and Yash Raj Films, the studio behind Aditya Chopra’s 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge are joining forces to mark the 30th anniversary of the iconic rom-com.

The celebration will coincide with British Railways’ 200th anniversary of the modern railway system. As a part of Railway 200 festivities, a musical adaptation the film, helmed by Chopra himself, will be staged. The musical, called Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical, will premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, running through June 21.

Suzanne Donnelly, Executive Director of Railway 200, expressed her excitement about the international collaboration in a statement: "We're very pleased to partner with Yash Raj Films and celebrate the enduring romance of rail and power of connection across the world. The railway has long inspired filmmakers and helped to shape our cultural landscape. Its bicentenary this year provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this hugely successful, rail-related Bollywood blockbuster, and its new musical opening in the UK this summer."

Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films also shared his enthusiasm for the project: "We are delighted to collaborate with Railway 200, as part of the railway's 200th anniversary. YRF has always stood for bringing stories that are rooted in India, yet have a global footprint and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a testament to that.”

Released in October 1995, DDLJ chronicles the story of Simran and Raj, who fall in love while on a trip to Europe. Despite Simran being promised to another man, she wishes to elope with Raj. As for Raj, he stops at nothing to gain her family’s approval before they tie the knot.
