Mollywood superstar Mohanlal has confirmed the third instalment of the highly acclaimed crime-thriller Drishyam. Taking to his social media accounts, the actor shared a photo of himself along with director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor, captioning it, “The Past Never Stays Silent. Drishyam 3 Confirmed! #Drishyam3.”
The announcement has fans of the franchise riled up, many excited to see what will unfold in the next film. One user wrote, “This is gonna be lit,” while another commented, “There is no announcement that was waited for more than this.”

No further details of the film – the plot, the probable release date – are kept under wraps for now. The first Drishyam film, which debuted in 2013, earned rave reviews and became the first Malayalam film to cross Rs 5 crore at the box office. The film follows the story of Georgekutty (Mohanlal) who has to cover up an accidental death committed by his family out of self-defence. With the police on their tail, the patriarch does everything in his power to divert and mislead law enforcement.
Drishyam 2, released in 2021, had an OTT release and premiered on Amazon Prime Video due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It picks up six years into the future, the family still mentally plagued by the traumatic events that occurred in the first film. The case is re-opened when a witness of the crime emerges from the shadows, once again placing Georgekutty and his family in danger.

The films became such a massive hit that they were remade in multiple languages – Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, and Chinese. There is also a Hollywood remake of the film in the works.
With the unique plotline and stellar performances, who knows what predicament Georgekutty will get caught up in Drishyam 3.
