The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Assam and Maharashtra governments over YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani’s plea seeking clubbing of FIRs registered against him in connection with the ‘India’s Got Latent’ row. The Gauhati High Court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to the YouTuber.
Hearing Chanchlani’s plea, a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotishwar Singh observed that the YouTuber has already been granted interim relief by the Gauhati High Court. However, Chanchlani’s counsel said their plea was regarding the clubbing of FIRs registered in Guwahati and Mumbai or quashing of FIRs registered in Assam due to the similar nature of charges. The bench ordered the issuance of notice to respective state governments and to tag the case with pleas filed by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, the key accused in the matter.
Earlier, the Gauhati High Court granted Chanchlani interim protection from arrest and directed him to appear before investigators in Assam within 10 days.
While hearing YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s plea, the Supreme Court lashed out at him and said his controversial comments “reflected perversion in his mind”. The apex court said parents and sisters would be ashamed of comments he made during the show. However, the Court granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest and stayed registering of fresh FIRs over the matter. The top court also restricted him from doing shows for the time being.
