Renowned director Ram Gopal Varma revealed that he is not particularly fond of Mohanlal’s performance in his directorial Company. Varma collaborated with the Mollywood superstar in the 2002 crime thriller, which also starred Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Manisha Koirala, Antara Mali, and Seema Biswas.

Now, in a recent interview with Milestone Makers Max, Varma revealed that he was not a fan of Mohanlal’s performance in his directorial Company, and was apprehensive about answering all the questions he might have regarding his character, IPS officer Veerappalli Srinivasan. “I had this feeling that he would ask me many complicated questions about the script, the first time I met him for Company. I was kind of prepared for that, and after finishing the narration, the first and only question he asked me was ‘Sir, how many days do you want?’ So that was like an anti-climax for me. And I am sure he does it with everyone, not just me, because he is an actor who understands the craft, who understands how films are made and I think he does it on trust,” he said.
“Even when he was performing, I had issues in the beginning. I thought he was not doing it the right way and I went on asking him for takes and after 6-7 takes, I was checking them and I found that the first take was the best one,” he continued.

“He is a very instinctive actor,” he said describing Mohanlal’s acting methods. “The fact that he does not discuss about the character itself proves that he is instinctive. It might sound lesser than a person who prepares, but I think it’s a much greater art.”
Varma’s upcoming film Saaree, featuring debutant Aaradhya Devi, will hit theatres on February 28.
