Was Amitabh Bachchan’s recent tweet an indirect comment on the Trump-Zelenskyy Oval Office showdown?

A diplomatic meeting-turned-shouting match between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and America’s President Trump and Vice President JD Vance is all the internet can talk about right now. But did Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan also weigh in on it?

A diplomatic meeting set up between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and America’s President Trump and Vice President JD Vance to discuss Ukraine’s rare earth minerals turned chaotic, escalating into a shouting match between both parties.

The incident has now gone viral, with many claiming that the American leaders had brought Zelenskyy in front of a televised discussion to humiliate him. The internet is flooded with opinions on the exchange and did veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan also seemingly make a jibe on the interaction?

After midnight on March 1, Bachchan took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted “Gaye the, vaapas aa gaye” (went, came back). Netizens were quick to assume that the timing of the post and the contents of it were too perfect to be about anything else. One user commented, “JELENSKI gaye the amerika vaapas aa gaye beijjat hokar” (Zelenskyy went to America and came back dishonoured), while another wrote, “This sums up the Zelenskyy and Trump meeting.”

Comedian Vir Das also commented on the disastrous interaction.

What happened in the White House?

On Friday, Zelenskyy and Trump convened in the White House’s Oval Office to discuss the United States using Ukraine’s natural mineral resources in exchange for continued support from the country. However, the discussion quickly spiralled into an intense showdown between the two world leaders.

Speaking about Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which intensified over the last few years, Zelenskyy said, “He broke the ceasefire, he killed our people, and he didn’t exchange prisoners. We signed off on the exchange of prisoners but he didn’t do it. What kind of diplomacy are you speaking about JD?”

“Mr President (Zelenskyy), with respect, I think it is disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office trying to litigate this in front of the American media... You should be thanking the president (Trump) for trying to put an end to this conflict,” VP Vance replied.

President Trump further added that if Zelenskyy continued down this path, it could trigger a third World War. “You are gambling with the lives of millions of people. You are gambling with World War III. And what you are doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country!”

While the talks did not unfold as planned, and no minerals deal was signed, Trump later posted on X that Zelenskyy was disrespectful in the Oval Office, and that “he can come back when he is ready for peace.”
