A month after its theatrical release, Sajin Gopu and Anaswara Rajan-led rom-com Painkili is set to make its OTT debut. Streaming service ManoramaMAX has announced that the film, which was released on Valentine’s Day, will be available on their platform soon, perfect for those who missed out on the big screen experience.
Painkili follows Suku, who pretends to be insane to escape the law and authorities. While keeping up this ruse, he falls in love with a girl but gets entangled in a web of lies. Helmed by Sreejith Babu, the film also stars Jisma Vimal, Roshan Shanavas, and Chandu Salimkumar.
The film marks Babu’s debut directorial, having previously acted in The False Eye and Rekha. The script is penned by Jithu Madhavan, his influence is evident in the film as the lead role is played by Sajin Gopu, known for playing Ambaan in Madhavan’s hit 2024 film Aavesham. Madhavan also joined hands with Fahadh Faasil, the lead in Aavesham, to bankroll Painkili under the Fahadh Faasil and Friends production house, in collaboration with Urban Animal.
Painkili was edited by Kiran Das (Ullozhukku, Romancham, Rorschach), with music composed by Justin Varghese, who also recently worked on Basil Joseph-starrer Ponman and Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force.
The film received mixed reviews and tanked in the box office, grossing a reported Rs 4 crore against a Rs 10 crore budget. Though ManoramaMAX has announced that the movie will arrive on their platform, no release date has been set yet, the announcement still pending.
