Chhaava is still running in theatres but it seems that it has already made its way to the small screen. While it was reported by Times of India that the film would likely arrive on Netflix in mid-April, it has already begun online circulation due to a leak. Now, August Entertainment, an anti-piracy agency hired by Maddock Films, bankrolling the Vicky Kaushal-starrer, has filed an FIR in connection with the piracy.

Based on a complaint by Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of August Entertainment, ANI reported that the case has been registered at South Cyber Police Station under CR No. 23/2025 for offences under Sections 316(2) and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 51, 63, and 65A of the Copyright Act, Section 6AA of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 (Amendment 2023), and Sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology Act.

"Our probe has found that unidentified persons have created 1,818 internet links to circulate the film, thereby violating copyright laws and also impacting its theatrical distribution. Cyber police have begun tracking down IP addresses of these links," a Mumbai police official said in a statement to PTI.

About Chhaava

An adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the film follows the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj as he rises to power after the death of his father Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to fight against the Mughals. Helmed by Laxman Utekar, the film stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta.

The historical drama received mixed reviews, Pooja Biraia Jaiswal of THE WEEK writing, "The film showcases regality and grandeur, adrenaline-pumping action sequences and punchy dialogues, but interestingly, it does all of that and more, while ensuring it doesn't lose track of the plot and the narrative that runs beautifully across all its frames."

Released on Valentine's Day, the film is currently on its 36th day of screening and has grossed a worldwide box office collection of Rs 772 crore in its fifth week.
