L2: Empuraan had shattered records well before the film even hit the screens, racking up the most pre-sales by crossing the Rs 50 crore mark – the first ever Mollywood film to achieve this feat. One lakh of those pre-sale tickets were booked within the hour of ticket sales opening at 9 am on March 21.

Empuraan hit theatres on Thursday (March 27), and its opening day was characterised by packed theatres, cheers from fans, and loud social media reactions. So, how much did the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial pocket on day one?
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, L2: Empuraan managed to gross a whopping Rs 22 crore on its premiere day. The film had a pan-India release with the original Malayalam version, along with Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions. Unsurprisingly, a bulk of the collection came from the Malayalam version, making up Rs 19.45 crore of the collection. The Telugu version shared a sizeable amount, contributing Rs 1.2 crore, while the Tamil version racked up Rs 80 lakh, Hindi version minting Rs 50 lakh, and the lowest collection coming from the Kannada version with Rs 5 lakh.
The total budget of the film is yet to be revealed but Prithviraj did disclose something intriguing about it. "I can assure you the real production cost of this movie will be lesser than what you think it has cost after seeing it," he stated.
With the Hindi collection as low as it is, it seems unlikely that the collection for the version will rise this weekend considering Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar hitting the screens on March 30.
