The demand for skilled healthcare professionals in India has been steadily increasing over the past two years, according to a report released on Wednesday. The report, which analysed data from global job site Indeed, found that the healthcare sector saw a 22.4% rise in job postings between January 2021 and January 2023.
The report noted that this demand has been driven by the expansion of healthcare chains and hospitals across tier I and II cities, as well as the government's push for healthcare and nursing. The data was based on job postings and clicks for healthcare job roles on Indeed's portal during the period under review.
Jobseekers are also increasingly looking for opportunities in the healthcare sector, with a 52% increase in clicks for healthcare roles. Nurses, lab technicians, and physicians were the top healthcare-related jobs posted on the platform, accounting for 13%, 10%, and 8% respectively.
Bengaluru was found to lead in the number of healthcare jobs, with over 8% of the total job share, followed by Delhi (7%), Mumbai (6%), Chennai (6%), and Hyderabad (5%). The report also revealed an increased demand for healthcare jobs from tier II cities.
This trend highlights the growing need for skilled healthcare professionals in India, as hospitals and healthcare chains continue to expand across the country.
These tier II cities were Coimbatore, Ernakulam, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, it added.
"As India's healthcare sector continues to grow, so are the opportunities for job seekers in this field. Driven by factors such as increasing healthcare needs, rising incomes, and government initiatives, the healthcare ecosystem has seen tremendous growth, and has created considerable job opportunities across Tier I and II cities. We expect the healthcare sector to continue to be integral as India charts its post-pandemic recovery," Indeed India Head of Sales Sashi Kumar said.
