The second edition of THE WEEK Health Summit was inaugurated by Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for health and family welfare. The daylong summit is being held at The Ashok, New Delhi.
“The Union government is committed to delivering promises three times faster in its third term, as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And this includes health care services,” the minister said. She drew attention to the Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) programme which aims to create 1.5 lakh AAMs to provide comprehensive primary health care.
“Twenty-two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences will be added by this government. 75,000 additional postgraduate and undergraduate seats will be created in three years,” Patel said. “And, 12,000 more PM Jan Aushadi Kendras will be opened in this period. In the past 10 years, the Kendras have led to savings of Rs 30,000 crore for families.”
She said that, together with the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which provides insurance coverage, and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which aims to build a digital health ecosystem, health care in India was set to take a giant leap.
“Our government aims to ensure that no one faces financial hardship in accessing affordable, accessible, and quality health care,” Patel said.
