Less than a month since India recoiled in horror after video clips circulated of a tribal man being lynched in Kerala's Palakkad district, yet another horror story has emerged from God's own country.
Video footage of a 90-year-old woman being beaten by her 40-year-old granddaughter in Kannur district has gone viral on social media, prompting police to register a case on Monday.
A case was registered against the granddaughter, Deepa, under various provisions of the IPC, including using unlawful means to gain control of the property. The victim, Kalyani, who could be heard crying in the footage,was shifted to hospital.
In late February, 16 people were arrested for the lynching of Madhu, a mentally unstable tribal man, who died after being beaten up for petty theft. In January, video clips of a mentally ill woman being beaten up by her woman neighbours in Kochi had caused an uproar.
