After a gap of a little more than a week, fresh incident of statue violence has been reported in Tamil Nadu. A statue of Dravidian ideologue ‘Periyar’ E.V. Ramasamy was found beheaded in Pudukkottai. The vandals are yet to be identified.
A case has been registered and investigation is on. Incidents of statues of political ideologists being attacked after the declaration of northeast election results early in March.
Videos of two Lenin statues being razed to the ground led to sporadic violence in Tripura. Statue vandalism soon spread to other states, with a Periyar statue was found attacked in tamil Nadu's Vellore. Similar incidents were also reported in West Bengal and Kerala.
