In a shocking case of honour killing, a 21-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her own father a day before her wedding at Areekode in Malappuram district of Kerala on Thursday. The accused was arrested by the police.
According to reports, R. Athira was in love with a man from Koilandy in Kozhikode. Her father, Rajan, was against their relationship as he is from a different community. However, after the intervention of the police, the family agreed to their marriage and the wedding was scheduled for Friday.
Reports say Rajan was in an inebriated state when an altercation broke out between the father and daughter on Thursday. Though Athira was rushed to a nearby hospital by neighbours after being stabbed, she was declared brought dead by doctors.
Rajan is an auto driver. Athira was working at a dialysis centre of Manjeri Medical College.
