Senior journalist Shekhar Gupta, founder and editor of ThePrint was on Saturday elected president of the Editors Guild of India. He replaces Raj Chengappa, Group Editorial Director (Publishing), India Today Group.

Gupta is the first news website editor to be elected to the post. He founded ThePrint in 2017.

The Annual General Body meeting also elected A.K. Bhattacharya, Editorial Direct, Business Standard as its general secretary and Sheela Bhatt, editor, News affairs, NewsX Channel, as its treasurer, a Guild press release said.

Prakash Dubey, Group Editor, Dainik Bhaskar is the outgoing general secretary, and senior editor and columnist Kalyani Shanker held the office of treasurer so far.
